Now that's one creepy image. The NewsOliver Stone's George W. Bush bio-pic was going to be controversial, but no one would have imagined that star Josh Brolin would end up arrested before filming was even finished. Sadly it was just for drunken bar room shenanigans rather than for the content of the movieā¦but still. Behind the NewsWhen Oliver Stone announced plans to film his George W. Bush bio-pic in the heart of Louisiana, it was inevitable that there would be trouble. After all, this was Hollywood's 2nd most outspoken lefty (first place still has to go to Michael Moore) satirizing the current president in an area of the country packed with people who love Bush almost as much as they love Jeff Foxworthy and grating accents. There was no way that the Shreveport natives would respond well to what was happening, but no one would have guessed that the star of the movie would end up arrested.
According to a report from the Shreveport Police, officers were called to the Stray Cat bar just after 2:00am to deal with a rowdy patron. As more and more officers began to arrive in the bar other well-lubricated customers (including Brolin and Wright) attempted to step in and help the rowdy drunk who at one point was surrounded by 10 police officers. Brolin had to bail himself out with a modest sum of $334 as did most of the other arrestees. However, one crewmember (it's unclear if he was the initial cause of the disturbance) ended up forking over $752 to get out of jail. No one from the police department or the W. crew has commented on the incident in great detail. Detective Rod Demery was the only person involved who has spoken directly to the press and all he had to say was that the department had to deal with drunken bar situations like this one every week and this only difference has been the amount of unnecessary media attention that this case has received (whoops). Everyone involved with the W. production has declined to comment on the incident which is probably a wise decision. However, they would be able to point out the irony that nothing Brolin and co. did could match the true tales of George Bush's drunken debauchery that they have been filming for weeks. Sadly this is not the first newsworthy arrest for Josh Brolin, who was picked up by the po-po in 2004. That arrest was for a dramatically less humorous incident of domestic abuse. While the two incidents hardly qualify Brolin as a bad-ass outlaw, you still can't help but wonder what papa James Brolin (Maverick himself) thinks about the situation. Hopefully this will be the last major hiccup for W. which is on a rushed production schedule in an attempt to get the movie released in time for the November election. Comments
