The world's first fashion island. The NewsThat's right Lagerfeld is designing an entire island. Dubai has 300 man-made islands to design and populate these days. They may as well get some fashion icons to do it. Somebody's got to. Behind the NewsKarl Lagerfeld is widely regarded as one of the finest fashion designers of the 20th century. He's created fashion lines for major labels like Chanel, Chloe, and Fendi. There's really nothing else for him to do in the fashion world, so he's decided to take a step up and design an entire Island. That's right, Lagerfeld will be in charge of Isla Moda the world's first "fashion island"(whatever that means), as part of a new Dubai development called The World.
What exactly will Lagerfeld be doing with the island, you ask? Well, the fashion master is set to design 80 luxury interiors on Isla Moda. This tropical paradise of an island will be home to a hotel, residential villas, and boutiques…you know like a normal island. The difference with Isla Moda is that everything on the island will be designed by one of the world's fashion leaders and Lagerfeld is the first name attached to the project. Once completed, city officials are hoping that Isla Moda will put Dubai on the fashion map. The plan is for the island to host fashion shows, product launches, and draw some of the most beautiful people in the world for boozing and schmoozing. The island is part of Dubai's larger offshore project The World, which is even more impressive conceptually. It's a man-made archipelgo of 300 islands in the shape of a map of the world. This is certainly an expensive and high profile project that will draw a great deal of attention once completed. It's also a huge waste of money, but hey, the rich gotta live too. Artificial tropical paradises ain't gonna make and populate themselves. Comments
