Have you ever heard bad things about a hotel with “palace†in the title (with the possible exception of Palace Of Torture and Terrible Service? Why did you book a room there anyways?). Located deep in the heart of downtown Barcelona, getting anywhere in the city from this hotel is breeze, which makes those drunken, stumbling walks home nothing to be concerned about. Built in 1919, the place has a traditional architectural charm, while still offering all the services and pampering expected from a fiver-star stop. You may not be treated like actual royalty at The Palace Hotel, but you'll feel just as snooty. Plus now they are doing a 20 million Euro renovation, so book early; the number of rooms will be minimal until they reopen. -N.E.
