A trip to Barcelona used to inspire excitement to try the local cuisine. No one has ever doubted the culinary greatness of Spanish cuisine. But now that seemingly every city in the world has already embraced the tapas trend to far too large and extent and have already moved on to the next "hot" cuisine (and I don't mean temperature-wise).
One trip to Tapac 24 and your love for Spanish food will be rekindled. Strictly speaking, there is nothing either special or unique about the restaurant. It's located in the basement, the décor is rather plain, and the food is traditional. But take one bite, and you'll realize why this has become a major spot for tourists and locals alike. The kitchen staff doesn't try to do anything fancy, just focus on turning a few choice ingredients—purple-tinged artichokes, cured-tuna shavings, and the like—into gastronomically orgasmic treats.
The menu of simple gourmet dishes includes something called truffled bikini (grilled cheese with mozzarella and Iberico ham), silken anchovies laid on a slab of requeson cheese, and broken duck eggs on fries that will make your mouth water. None of these dishes are radically different from something you'd find at any other Spanish restaurant, but the simplicity, freshness, and attention to detail make them stand out in the crowd. If any of that sounds appealing to you, then run like you are being chased by a bull to Tapac 24. – R.T.
