We may as well cut straight to the point – Copenhagen is very, very us. Flagged by many travel trendsetters as one of the most livable cities, this Danish city has asserted itself as something of a regional super-player. The much-ballyhooed Øresund and Helena Christensen, aside, Denmark has much to offer.
If you keep your eyes peeled on the restaurant scene, specifically the new-age Nordic Cuisine spots, you'll notice that there's getting to be a lot of dining scenery to chew on. Restaurant Noma, for exquisite example, has currently been voted the 10th best restaurant in the world, mostly due to the recent revolution in Danish cuisine. They also don't have postal codes - these Danes are just wild!
To be perfectly honest, the residents of Copenhagen are pretty rambunctious since the laws on drinking allow partying to begin quite young (legally, at least) - the legal drinking age starts at 16 and there are no laws against consuming alcohol in public - Copenhagen is like Europe's rebellious child whose parents would rather not deal with his antics and let him do whatever he wants. On a tamer note, the Jazz scene is fantastic and the Copenhagen Jazz Festival is always a big event in the summertime. Also, if partying isn't you thing, biking is a very popular activity and most residents ride bikes around instead of cars (go green!).
The Danish currency is the krone (DKK), which is divided into 100 oere. Economy-wise, this city is booming! One Canadian dollar is equivalent to about 4.81 krone. Copenhagen was ranked as the 9th richest city in the world in a recent survey. If this isn't enough to grab your attention, the city can make you feel like it's Christmas all year round since visitors claim it looks just like Santa's little village. Copenhagen has always stayed under the radar despite its affluence, like a pretty girl who looks plain until she takes off her glasses. – M.K.
