Every worthwhile destination city has a zeitgeist shop and the Naked Ape is Reykjavik's. Recently celebrating its 3rd anniversary, it has a surprising longevity for a cool shop/space/experience (hip stores age faster than dogs and produce). An amalgamation of clothing emporium, art space, and cultural centre of sorts, it has become an epicenter of Reykjavik activity, offering the aforementioned clothing as well as hosting events.
Ostensibly like Urban Outfitters without the cloying corporate ethos and furniture, the Ape has a comprehensive collection of clothing, including uniquely printed tees, vibrant kicks, hoodies aplenty, and all manner of other original wears. From the Ape you still get all the youth-happy wears of an AA or an Urban, but eliminate the possibility of showing up on Cobrasnake wearing the same thing as someone else. The space itself is malleable and constantly mutating, as are in-house activities and exhibits. Thus, even if you've been before, it's worth a second trip. -NE
